271. Halls of Justice

Over the weekend the boys had soccer games in Des Moines, Ia.  Before the game we stopped in Winterset, IA in Madison County, this is an area where there are several covered bridges and where they actually filmed the movie “Bridges of Madison County” w/ Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood.  Pictured here is the Madison County Courthouse and town hall in Winterset, Ia…..a little info on the court house:

Madison County Courthouse

Built in 1876 on the ruins of the second courthouse that burned the year before, the courthouse is constructed of native limestone and sits in an enchanting town square setting. The stately dome with four clocks rises 122 feet and is visible for miles.

  1. It’s funny sometimes how some small towns will have the most elaborate city buildings, be they the old post office, library, or court house.

  2. Beautiful shot of the courthouse. Doesn’t look windy here!!

  3. Guess you’ve spent a fair bit of time in many of the Halls of Justice in your neck of the woods, this one must be impressive for you to want to see it again. Nice Photo, your well back though!

  4. Wonderful building…are you teasing us with talk of covered bridges?

  5. Hi Tammy,
Beautiful Courthouse! I love the old courthouses, they just don’t build them like they used to. We have an old courthouse in our square. Have a great day!

  8. I like the solid feel of the center placement on this shot, and that intense blue sky is amazing!

  9. Beautiful shot, although slightly rich in the sky. Bravo.

  10. What an impressive building and a great shot of it. I wonder what the rest of the county was like in 1876…
